HISTORY
BB International Fine Arts (Switzerland) represents international artists working in all media (painting, photography, sculpture, multimedia) in Europe and worldwide. Its services include exhibitions, art fairs, representation through its own galleries, publications, catalogues and the management of cultural events.
Since the 1970s, the gallery has been developing and organising art exhibitions throughout Europe with numerous young and innovative artists, providing them with a successful entry into the art market.
Founded in 1972 (originally 'Galerie BB' in Kassel, Germany), the gallery has hosted exhibitions by the great conceptual and performance artist Joseph Beuys and other major figures of the Fluxus movement, as well as artists from Documenta 6.
The first events in the 1970s included Wolf Vostell, Tim Ulrichs, representatives of the Eastern European avant-garde (1970s) with Andrzej Ekwinski, director of the Warsaw Teatr Studio, Happenings and Fluxus, Mail Art (presented in the first European TV production by "Aspekte", ZDF and other channels).
In the early 1970s, the Gallery co-operated with the Wiebenga Gallery in Lausanne, Switzerland, presenting 20th century masters from Renoir to Picasso.
In 1984 the gallery held its first international art fair in Stockholm, showing selected works by Sonja Sekula, Georges Rouault and Pablo Picasso.
The early 1990s brought new locations with new projects in Zurich and Lugano, Switzerland, including a new publication "The New Artist" in 1997.
From 1998 to the present, BB International Fine Arts has conceived and organised exhibitions in partner galleries and participated in international art fairs in Europe and the USA. Based in Switzerland, the company organises international exhibitions in collaboration and partnership with galleries in Paris, New York City, Barcelona, Washington D.C., Mannheim, Geneva and Zurich.
Since 1999, BB International Fine Arts has also been organising its own art fairs in top locations in Switzerland. Young and established galleries as well as emerging artists are presented. For private and institutional collectors, these fairs are a treasure trove of relaxed art shopping.
The transformation of the gallery culminated in 1999 with the creation of the international contemporary art fair 'Art International Zurich' at the Zurich Convention Center.
At the 25th anniversary edition of Art International Zurich in the autumn of 2023, visitors who are interested in art can look forward to a wide range of works. In addition to paintings and sculptures, there will be graphic art, photography, art objects, video art and virtual works.
In the following years, other art and design fairs were established in Switzerland with their own independent orientation.
